This creature you see here is called a frilled shark. Sightings of these sharks are rare because they usually live thousands of feet below in the Ocean. This shark was spotted by a fisher in Japan. After being caught, the shark was moved to Japan’s Awashima Marine Park on Sunday, January 21, 2007. Unfortunatly the shark died not shortly after being captured. Some speculate that it came to the surface because it was sick. We may never know.

How very fascinating! Do you know if there are more of them? Guess I could head to Google and/or Wikipedia and find out. lol.

There are more! They all live deep down in the Ocean, which is why we never see them. I guess they are starting to go extinct but they haven’t been placed on the list yet. They are the closest to what a shark looked like in prehistoric times with many of the same qualities. I found them to be incredibly interesting but a bit spooky with those cloudy eyes they have (probably for the deep dark waters they live in). Reminded me of that strange fish in Finding Nemo with the light bulb thingy hanging from it’s head.

I have seen these pictures a couple of times now, and they still fascinate me everytime! Really makes you wonder what other mysteries are below the surface!!

I can’t even imagine. My mind keeps going to scary stuff though. The deep dark waters have that scary feeling for me, so it’s just natural to think that everything that deep would be creepy (at least for me).

“…thousands of feet below in the Ocean.” I don’t get why “Ocean” is capitolized.

A mistake. You apparently can make them too…
“capitolized is spelled capitalized”.

Hmm. A fisherman can’t have taken this picture. It is taken from below the water. I adore sharks and know about most types, but I’ve never even heard of a frilled shark. Oh well, I shan’t question. As you were. ^__^

Amazing how little we know, even more amazing how little many of us care. Very sad that this animal was taken from the wild, with little to no knowledge of how to care for it.

the frilled shark was sick because how can a shark be captured and die in a short while after captured that shark is the only shark i seem to like because other sharks are dangerous for meat and we humans are their meat because they find us easily when ever they find us easily we are dead meat

you are all such tools. clearly the shark depicted above is a play off of a penis. the fact that every one of you are gullible enough to be completely captivated by this makes me regret the evolution of humanity in its entirety

who here asked if there are MORE of em? i mean have you studied any biology? we all need a mama and a dada…sheesh.
check my blog link just below the pics for a video of this shark swimming–it is real, not a photoshopped penis mime

Its not a stupid question hun.
What if mama and dada died?
What if its brothers and sisters died?
No one knows if there are more of them.
(Alive anyway.)

I wonder what the mystery thousands of feet under water really is. If nature gives opportunity to victims of drown, they may not be able to explain creatures, sites and phenomena.

Q: Wait… are there STILL those kind of sharks in the water?
A: No one knows. But we will find the answer.
July 29, 2010 at 10:35 pm
Jay(:
Those idiots!
They should of just observed the shark.
In a video I saw about this, the marine expert said the shark might of been sick and maybe thats why it went up to the surface.
I think it would of died either way but still, they should of left it alone in the water not move it somewhere else.
